    Reverse Engineer with DB compare

I am evaluating ModelRight for SQL Server and seem to be having an issue.

    These are the steps:

Reverse Engineer existing SQL Server 2005 database into a model.

Compare model to the same database and come up with a large number of differences.

I expected to see none.  Please help, I really like this tool toherwise.

    Thank you.

    Roman.

Re: Reverse Engineer with DB compare

You are correct.  There should not be any differences.  Please make sure that you do not select any Infer Options at the end of the RE.  That would cause MR to infer new objects - which would then show up as differences.  If that isnt the problem, then we would need additional information - like what is different?  maybe a screenshot of the differences - or ideally the schema/database.  Please reply to [email protected] if you send anything confidential.

Also, are you using "Reverse Engineer into Model" or just "Reverse Engineer"?  Also, you could try MR 3 to see if that has the same issue.

Re: Reverse Engineer with DB compare

Thank you very much for a quick reply.  I tried it both ways with and without "infer" option.

I will send you an email with database ddl.  The email will be from the BayFirst domain.

    Thanks again.

I am using the current version that I downloaded 2 days ago. I believe it's 3.5.  I did reverse engineer into model.

Re: Reverse Engineer with DB compare

It does appear there are some issue with RE into Model creating additional relations. We will investigate. However, I believe that you want to use just "Reverse Engineer". "Reverse Engineer into Mode should be used if you have an existing model with stuff in it and you just want to add database objects to it.   Sorry for the confusion.  We will try to clarify in the User Interface.
